I usually don’t do upgrades but in this case upgrading from the release candidate to the full release of W7 didn’t seem like the worst idea. I used the instructions at this link and it worked.

missing mouse on vmware server or esx(i) vm with vmware tools installed
I have had this one crop up occasionally and I can’t ever remember the fix so I’m posting it here. Basically this happens if you had a microsoft vm that you cloned, p2v’ed, imported, etc into any of the vmware products. It doesn’t matter if you uninstall the microsoft vm additions first. The fix is to delete a registry key. Link to article at vmware.

this is just dumb
I had to install the SMTP service on a 2008 server today for the first time, and Microsoft does not make it easy.
- The SMTP install is under features and not under roles.
- When you do install SMTP, where do you manage it, you wonder. Thanks to google and this link, I now know that you have to use the IIS6 manager. What??!!
